"Project Jack'd Up":If you recall from my Projects page, I brought my '69 Beetle home a few weeks after my son Caleb was born. Caleb is ten years old now and he's been asking for the last few months about building him a "go-fast" project -- a drag racing inspired minibike. I wonder where he gets it?
I promised Caleb that we would build him a minibike as soon as the car was done. Well, the car made it on the road in late-September 2008 and the snow is fast approaching, so it's time to start on Caleb's project. He has affectionately named it "Project Jack'd Up", playing off the name of my car -- "Jack".
Here's what we have planned:
-Gulf Blue frame w/ polished aluminum/charcoal grey wheels (Like father, like son...)
-Chopped drag-style handlebars
-6.5 HP OHV Honda "clone" engine
-ACR top plate w/ bell crank linkage
-K&N style filter
-ACR header w/ Briggs muffler
-Tiny-Tach hours/tach guage
-Solo seat
-Billet pegs
-Kart slick on the rear
-Wheelie bars
-Misc. brushed aluminum and carbon fiber bitsWe found an old Alexander-Renolds frame for $20 on www.CraigsList.com. The frame is solid and straight, but the forks needs some work. It looks like the prior owner attached the upright handlebars to them with bubble gum! That's okay. There is plenty of other welding we want to do to the frame -- and it will be a good opportunity for Caleb to learn to use the mig welder. Here's our progress to date.
